Charles Dickens was an adored, creative and respected British author of several literary pieces that are at this time are referred as classics. He was born on February 7, 1812, in Portsmouth which is located on the southern coast of England. Charles Dickens had a very rough upbringing. He didnââ¬â¢t have the ordinary life a child has. Between seven brothers and sisters he was the second born. His parents raised them together until his father whose name was John had accumulating amounts of debts which in the long run got his arrested and sent to a debtors prison. John was an exceptionally caring and easy going kind of guy. Charles Dickens was twelve when his father went to prison. Charles Dickensââ¬â¢s novel A Christmas Carol represents the outcome of greediness. Themes in this story were Themes in story were guilt and innocence. The protagonist of the novel is Ebenezer Scrooge who possibly Dickensââ¬â¢ most well-known character. Scrooge portrays greed which is what his name associates with nowadays and Charles Dickensââ¬â¢s uses him to represent the main theme in this novel which is in fact greed. Scroogeââ¬â¢s stingy ways effected not only himself but everyone around him for instance his poorly paid clerk Bob Cratchit and Cratchitââ¬â¢s son Tiny Tim who is handicap. Since Scrooge wonââ¬â¢t help Bob Cratchit he canââ¬â¢t afford to pay for Tiny Timââ¬â¢s surgery. Dickens described Scrooge as a ââ¬Å"â⬠¦squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner!â⬠Scrooge was somebody who treasured money to the highest extent. He was the kind of person who didnââ¬â¢t value the meaning of family. He disrespected mostly everybody he came into contact with. Basically, if it didnââ¬â¢t include money he wasnââ¬â¢t concerned about. Money was his happiness not love or family. He really didnââ¬â¢t like people especially the poor and definitely wouldnââ¬â¢t consider giving money to the carol singers.
